Day by day, gently

  1. 1

Welcome to Saigon: rooftop dinner above the scooter ballet of District 1.

  2. 2

War Remnants Museum, Central Post Office, lacquer workshops and the best banh mi in the city (we've tested extensively).

  3. 3

Morning at the Cu Chi tunnels with a guide whose family lived this history. Sunset cocktail cruise on the Saigon river.

  4. 4

Board our Mekong cruiser at My Tho. Floating markets, coconut workshops, life at water level. Cabins with balconies.

  5. 5

Sampan rides through narrow arroyos, an island orchard lunch, evening crossing toward the Cambodian border.

  6. 6

Cross into Cambodia by river — passports handled on board. Royal Palace and riverside promenade at dusk.

  7. 7

Silver Pagoda, Central Market, optional genocide memorial visit. Evening food-cart crawl along the Tonlé Sap riverfront.

  8. 8

Short flight north. Pool afternoon, then Phare — the Cambodian circus that sends everyone out grinning.

  9. 9

Bayon, Ta Prohm, Angkor Thom with our historian guide. Sundowners overlooking Srah Srang reservoir.

  10. 10

Banteay Srei's pink sandstone carvings, the jungle-swallowed Beng Mealea. Afternoon at the hotel pool.

  11. 11
